Official summary
Some 2020 Explorer/Aviator/Police Interceptor Utility vehicles equipped with a hybrid engine and built on or before 04-Aug-2020 may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and/or engine overheating fault message with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0217 and/or P06EF stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to an assembly pin left in the accessory drive belt tensioner during the production process. To correct the condition, remove any assembly pins from the accessory drive belt tensioner. If no pins are found, refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-06
What a TSB means. Technical service bulletins are repair guidance manufacturers send to dealers — they are not recalls, and repairs are not automatically free (warranty extensions are an exception worth checking). The full document is available via NHTSA’s vehicle lookup.
