Official summary

Some 2011-2017 f-super duty 6.7l diesel equipped vehicles may exhibit a ticking noise at idle after an engine oil change. It is often referred to as typewriter noise because of its similarity to the sound of a mechanical typewriter. When engine temperatures reach 150 å f (65 å c) or higher, (from engine idle up to approximately 1700 rpm's), this noise can typically be heard at the front wheel well and is often isolated to the transmission bell housing or oil pan area. Typewriter noise is not detrimental to engine function or durability and has no short or long term effects on the engine. Do no

What a TSB means. Technical service bulletins are repair guidance manufacturers send to dealers — they are not recalls, and repairs are not automatically free (warranty extensions are an exception worth checking). The full document is available via NHTSA’s vehicle lookup.
