Official summary
Residual brake pressure on the rear brakes of a 1996-1997 taurus or sable, make sure to support the rear control arms to remain at the normal ride height position. If the rear contral arm on the drivers side is allowed to hang all the way down, the height sensing proportioning valve may be allowed to reach the end of its travel and may act as a check valve trapping pressure to the rear brakes. *jd
What a TSB means. Technical service bulletins are repair guidance manufacturers send to dealers — they are not recalls, and repairs are not automatically free (warranty extensions are an exception worth checking). The full document is available via NHTSA’s vehicle lookup.
