Official summary

This is a Technical Information Notice that was sent to dealers, to inform them that it is no longer necessary, on future vehicle shipments, to complete bracket adjustment for the tailgate strut popping noise, and/or to check for the grease pen mark on the brackets. However, dealers are reminded that when completing PDI on any new 2020 MY Outlander Sport, that they listen for any popping noise when opening or closing the tailgate, and contact Techline if they encounter a vehicle that exhibits the noise.

What a TSB means. Technical service bulletins are repair guidance manufacturers send to dealers — they are not recalls, and repairs are not automatically free (warranty extensions are an exception worth checking). The full document is available via NHTSA’s vehicle lookup.
