Official summary
Update to MIB2 information to include 2015 and 2017 model year. On cars with a single USB port, the Apple authentication chip is in the USB port. On cars with 2 USB ports (one front and one rear), the authentication chip is in the USB hub. CarPlay will not work from a rear USB port. For static connection issues with no faults, no cable issues and no debris in the phone s cable port, swapping the USB port or hub with a known good part should be the first step in diagnosis.

What a TSB means. Technical service bulletins are repair guidance manufacturers send to dealers — they are not recalls, and repairs are not automatically free (warranty extensions are an exception worth checking). The full document is available via NHTSA’s vehicle lookup.
