Official summary

As previously announced, Subaru will be conducting a recall of certain 2004?2005MY Subaru Impreza (including WRX/STI) vehicles. The air bag inflators in the front passenger air bags for these vehicles could be susceptible to rupture and the front passenger air bag could deploy abnormally in a crash. WQR?53 is a geographic expansion of the current WQP?51 limited regional G1recall, to a national recall for Impreza models only. Details of the transition from WQP?51 to WQR?53 for the Impreza models are listed below.

What a TSB means. Technical service bulletins are repair guidance manufacturers send to dealers — they are not recalls, and repairs are not automatically free (warranty extensions are an exception worth checking). The full document is available via NHTSA’s vehicle lookup.
