Official summary
TechTip: In some cases, combination meters may automatically initialize for options detected on a specific vehicle. If a meter is exchanged between vehicles for diagnostic purposes, it may become unusable in the original vehicle. For example, if a combination meter is removed from a vehicle not equipped with LDA (Lane Departure Alert) and temporarily installed in a vehicle equipped with LDA, it may display ?CHECK LDA SYSTEM? on the multi-information display and set DTC U023A when reinstalled in the original vehicle. This condition cannot be reset, and the combination meter must be replaced.
What a TSB means. Technical service bulletins are repair guidance manufacturers send to dealers — they are not recalls, and repairs are not automatically free (warranty extensions are an exception worth checking). The full document is available via NHTSA’s vehicle lookup.
