Official summary
The Advanced Parking Guidance System (or Park Assist) assists the driver during parking and parallel parking by displaying an image of the area behind the vehicle and controlling the steering wheel with the vehicle in reverse. Removing the short pin or disconnecting the battery interrupts power to the Steering Angle Sensor. When the short pin is reinstalled or the battery terminal is reconnected, the rear view monitor will operate, but the steering angle sensor center position must be set through system initialization before park assist will become operational. What a TSB means. Technical service bulletins are repair guidance manufacturers send to dealers — they are not recalls, and repairs are not automatically free (warranty extensions are an exception worth checking). The full document is available via NHTSA’s vehicle lookup.
