The defect

ABS Remorques (ABS) is recalling certain 2014-2023 RC, WC, LRC, and LWC semi-trailers. The coupling plate may deteriorate, resulting in failure of the king pin and trailer detachment.

The risk

A detached trailer cannot be controlled and may overturn or obstruct the road, increasing the risk of a crash.

Check whether your specific vehicle is affected

Recall campaigns often cover only certain VIN ranges. Enter your VIN on the official NHTSA site to confirm whether your vehicle is included and whether the repair is still open.

The fix — what to do

Semi-trailer owners are advised to inspect for any coupling plate or king pin damage prior to operation. If damage is found, owners should not operate the trailer until it has been repaired. ABS authorized service facilities will replace the coupling plates, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 2, 2023. Owners may contact ABS customer service at 819-879-6216.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
