What NHTSA is examining

The purpose of this investigation was to request each vehicle manufacturer identify those vehicle products on which it used the defective caterpillar c15 engines and to request a defect determination be made as to its vehicles, as well as submission of a defect information report, or an explanation as to why its vehicles do not contain a safety defect. Rmd's investigation revealed that both oshkosh and american truck used the engines for military applications.also, monaco coach corportation/custom chassis products, llc was purchased in bankruptcy, and so no defect determination could be made according to its purchaser (navistar).an inquiry to country coach yielded a defect determination and report.the remaining manufacturers (peterbilt, kenworth, freightliner, sterling, western star, and navistar) had filed defect information reports by the time of rmd's inquiry, so no further action was required as to them. In summary, all applicable defect determinations and defect information reports for affected vehicles have been received and there is no need to continue this investigation.
