What NHTSA is examining

By letter of may 10, 2007, evenflo has notified the national highway traffic safety administration, office of defects investigation (odi)that it will conduct a safety recall (see 07c-003) of 448,000 embrace restraints to remedy the carry handle unlatching issues.the recall involves all embrace restraints manufactured from the start of production (december 2004) through april 7, 2006 with model numbers that begin with 317, 320, 397, 398, 540, 548, 549, 550, 556, 597, 598, and 599.embrace restraints produced after april 7, 2006 have newly designed handle lock mechanisms (triggers) that are attached to the handle with metal fasteners (rivets). Evenflo will provide consumers a free remedy kit that includes two of the newly designed triggers andplastic rivets to permanently secure the triggers in the carry handle.this investigation was opened on june 28, 2006, as preliminary evaluation pe06-023 and upgraded to engineering analysis ea06-017 on october 13, 2006.this investigation is now closed.see document file for additional information regarding this resume.
